Battle of the VPs
Current Vice President Joe Biden and former VP Dick Cheney took to the airwaves to battle it out over terrorism, interrogation techniques, and Guantanamo Bay, among other things. Perhaps more interestingly, they actually agreed on two things: the surge in Afghanistan, and the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell.”
I have to wonder, after all, does anyone other than the pundits (and those of us with no life) even listen to what any VP, current or former, has to say? And of those of us who do listen, do we really care?
Let’s face it – their opinions carry little weight outside of their respective political bases, and neither Biden nor Cheney are particularly entertaining (other than when Biden is dropping one of his infamous gaffs, or Cheney is dropping a hunting buddy!) So why would three networks devote their Sunday talk shows to this?
Perhaps because it showcases the essence of our politics – spin, conflict, and the blame game.
